James J. Della Pella

James "Jimmy" Della Pella, age 78 of Woodhaven, MI, went to his eternal home on November 30, 2023. Jimmy was affectionately known as "Bear", a nickname he earned as a right of passage in River Rouge where he grew up. He was the son of the late James and Anna Della Pella. Beloved husband of Wanda Dove, loving father of Jesse Anderson (Kelly) and Pop-Pop of Kloe, Krue, Krey, Kinley. Dearest and much-loved brother of Bob (Linda) Della Pella, Diane (Chris) Beaudrie. Dear brother-in-law of Tammy (Joe) Rossi and Richard Surma. Jimmy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
Before his illness, Jimmy loved to golf till his fingers bled. He used to walk the river at Elizabeth park sharing the good news of Jesus. He was known and very loved for his wit and sense of humor. He was a Lion's fan from the day he was born, thanks to his father. He loved watching and getting upset over football and hockey. He was a softie for babies, and his grandchildren were his joy. He is sadly missed by his family and lifelong friends. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place under the care of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes. A life celebration will take place on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Faith Christian Assembly, 25201 W Outer Drive, Melvindale MI. Reverend Ray Bucciarelli will officiate the service. A luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Angela Hospice.
