James Densmore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by West Gadsden Funeral Home on Jan. 13, 2026.
In person signing of the book and viewing will be 12noon - 6pm Friday, January 23, 2026 in the chapel of West Gadsden Funeral Home.

Celebration of life will be 1:00pm Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Antioch Family Life Center 2103 E. Broad St. Gadsden, Al 35903

James Densmore was Born on May 5, 1957, to the union of Willie Mae and Earl Densmore, he was a lifelong resident of Gadsden, Alabama-a place he loved and proudly called home. He received his education in the Gadsden City School System and later answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. A proud Vietnam-era Veteran, he was stationed overseas in Korea and remained a devoted and active member of the American Legion throughout his life.

He will be remembered most for his kind heart, open spirit, and unwavering willingness to help others. He never met a stranger and believed deeply in showing up for people-whether family, friends, or those simply in need. A true Good Samaritan, he lived his life guided by love, generosity, and connection. As Proverbs 18:24 reminds us, "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly," and he lived this scripture daily through the countless relationships he built and cherished.

In 1983, he was united in holy matrimony to Debra Peek, and two children were born to this union. He later married Lynn Hardy in 2000, and one child was born to that union.

He had a lifelong love for automobiles and found joy in working on and talking about cars. He truly treasured time spent with friends, whether sharing stories, laughter, or simply being in one another's presence. He built a long and respected career in the oil industry, where he connected easily with people and formed lasting bonds that extended far beyond the workplace. In his quieter moments, he found peace in gardening and joy in sharing a cup of coffee with close friends-simple routines that reflected his appreciation for life's everyday blessings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Mae and Earl Densmore; his grandson, Jakhilen Densmore; his brother, Earl Densmore Jr.; and his sister, Hazel George.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his children: James "Boot" Rollins, Jameta Densmore, James (Jamie) Densmore II, and Creasap Densmore, all of Gadsden, Alabama; and a bonus son, Colonel E. Travonté Moten of Washington, D.C.

He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Jaden Pearson, Jael Rollins, James Densmore III, Rain Densmore, Nova Densmore, and Jameson Densmore, all of Gadsden, Alabama.

He leaves behind his brothers, Larry Densmore and Phillip (Cheryl) Densmore of Gadsden, Alabama; and his sisters, Lillie Mae Canady, Gloria Crocton, Wanda Faye Moore, all of Gadsden, Alabama; Shirley (Charles) Vaughn of Montgomery, Alabama; and Patricia (James) Smith of Jacksonville, Alabama.

He also leaves to mourn his passing special friends Robert Collom, Dale, and Jig, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were made richer by knowing him.

His legacy lives on through the love he gave, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched. He will be remembered not only for what he did, but for how he made people feel-seen, valued, and loved

Red..... a phenomenal man that didn't meet a stranger, a bestie at heart. Red loved everyone and I'm so glad i got to meet him and spend a lot of time with him. He became a part of our family from day one and we all loved him from the start. RED will truly be missed. Rest in peace, fly high and know God has a place selected for you in His arms.

I remember being a young girl and Uncle Red coming to visit. He was incredibly patient, funny, and caring. He let me plait his hair and took us for rides in his car. You will be missed! Say hi to my daddy (Bubba)! I'm sure he is so happy to see you!! Rest in love, Uncle Red!!
