James Alden "Jim" DeVries

James "Jim" Alden DeVries,
Jim was born December 31, 1949, in Minnesota to Robert and Adele (Rahlves) DeVries, brother to Michael, Deborah and Wendy. He met his wife Judith (Luedcke) working at the Lutheran Home, where he shared "it was love at first sight". Jim and Judy would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this October. He was a loving father to Andrew (Valerie) DeVries, Jessica (Thomas) Menke, Elizabeth DeVries and Justin (MacKenzie) DeVries and grandfather to Bailey, Colin, Mason, Alex, Cooper, Kenzie, Emma, Kameron and one more coming this fall.
Jim and Judy loved and cared for 60 children during their 32 years of service as foster parents.
Jim worked at Key Products as a CNC machinist for 39 years before retiring. After retiring, he helped at a soup kitchen at Bethany Lutheran Church and also volunteered his time helping with projects at his home church, Divine Shepherd. As Judy continued to work, Jim stayed home and cared for the babies. He enjoyed spending time with his family "up north" at the lake where he loved to fish, golf and garden. Jim enjoyed running, putting in about 4 miles every other day. He also loved to read, often reading multiple books per week. He loved music and had a collection of various instruments.
Jim passed away on April 2, 2023, at the age of 73 after a short and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 11am – 1pm at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church (9741 W. Beloit Rd, Milwaukee, WI 53227) with a service to follow at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Foundation For His Ministry (ffhm.org) which Jim supported and visited or OneHope27 (onehope27.org) which supports Milwaukee area foster children.
