James Clay "Jim" Dewey, 81, of Amarillo, TX died Tuesday, November 29, 2022.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2022, at St. Stephen United Methodist church with son, Trey Dewey and grandson, JJ Zalman officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Jim was born April 21, 1941, in Woodward, OK to Lester and Elva (Campbell) Dewey.
He graduated from Amarillo High School and then the University of TX Austin where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. He continued to bleed burnt orange throughout his entire life and loved watching UT sports with family. He achieved the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout. He was a veteran of the US Army National Guard and a graduate of the US Army Infantry Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA.
He worked as an auditor for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for thirty years. After retirement he enjoyed a second career as a tax professional until recently.
One of Jim's greatest pleasures was spending time at the family cabin in Colorado with family and friends where there was never a shortage of things to do and projects to work on. He also enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. Jim enjoyed spending time with his three boys, his grandchildren and new great granddaughter. There was hardly ever a time he missed any event they were involved in.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Kaye Dewey.
Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Kathy Lynn (Rodden) Dewey, of Amarillo, TX; three children, James Edward "Trey" Dewey and wife Laurie, of Sentani, Papua, Indonesia, Kevin Michael Dewey and wife Julie, of Keller, TX, and Bradley Clay Dewey and wife Lindsy, of Amarillo, TX; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Nancy Dewey Thomson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations are given to your favorite charity in Jim's name.
