James Wesley Dickey, 79, lifelong resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Kersey officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday, August 25, 2025 from 4:00 PM till 8:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.
Born April 3, 1946 in Columbia, TN, he was the son of the late Sherman Wesley Dickey and the late Addie B. Scott Dickey. On October 9, 1964, he married the love of his life, Judy Hanvy. Mr. Dickey worked twenty six years for the Daily Herald prior to working for the Maury County Property Assessor’s Office as an appraiser. He loved riding dirt bikes and ATV’s, and announced at motocross events across Middle Tennessee. Mr. Dickey was a member of the Church of Christ, and preached all over Maury County, and the surrounding counties.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Judy Hanvy Dickey, he is survived by sons, Jason (Farrah) Dickey, and Jon Dickey; granddaughter, Blair Dickey; grandson, Bryce Old; brother, Jerry Wayne (Carol) Dickey; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Rogers.
Active pallbearers will be Todd Lovette, Eric Chappell, Bryce Old, George Hanvy, Rory Gant, Jon Dickey, and Chris Dickey.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Compassus Hospice.
