James Dispenza Obituary

Dr. James "Jim" Anthony Dispenza died on July 25, 2025 surrounded by family and dear friends.
Jim was born in Jamestown, New York to the late Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Dispenza. He graduated from Jamestown High School and remained friends with several classmates until his passing. He attended Syracuse University for undergraduate, where he met the love of his life, Donna.
He graduated from Upstate Medical School and practiced medicine in his adopted community of Syracuse for over four decades. He was known as an empathetic, tireless and compassionate physician who loved his patients and his calling and whistled on his way to work every day.
His friends and family were sources of great joy to him and he had boundless energy for people, events, parties, and fun. He adored music, golf, travel, Syracuse University sports, and model railroading and spent many happy hours with his friends and family who joined in.
An enthusiastic joiner, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a communicant and volunteer at St. Rose of Lima and St. Margaret's Church, a board member at the Syracuse University St. Thomas More Foundation, and a member of the Liverpool Community Chorus and Syracuse Rose Society.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Samuel and Charles Dispenza. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna, his children Mary (David) Snyder, James (Siobhan) Dispenza, Laurie (Thomas) Turton, his grandchildren Luke, Henry, Anna, Alicia, Olivia, Elizabeth, James and Thomas. He is also survived by his brother and sister in law Harry and Marilyn Davis, his sisters in law Bernadette and Donna Dispenza, and many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and loving friends.
During his long illness, he had many caregivers who modeled his same dedication and professionalism, and his family is grateful for their kindness and care.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 1 from 4 to 7 pm at FARONE & SON, INC., Funeral Home, 4899 W. Taft Road, Liverpool, NY 13088. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 2, 10 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 407 S. Main St., North Syracuse, NY 13212. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt, NY.
Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Rose of Lima Church (North Syracuse), or the Knights of Columbus Bishop Cunningham Council 10904.

I met Dr. Jim when he joined the Liverpool Community Chorus. He was a joy to know - always smiling, and friendly. When he was diagnosed, he came to me and told me what was going on and may miss some rehearsals. No problem, Jim - come when you´re able - you´re always welcome! He did just that and enjoyed every rehearsal.
I attended his calling hours and his funeral today and wish I had known him much longer. Rest in Peace, Dr. Jim. I have no doubt you´re among the angel choir now and looking down on all of us.

Sam and I had so much fun taking Jimbo as Dad sometimes called him skiing, boating and to the 1964 Worlds Fair. He was always ready to go traveling. And traveling he did. We saw him with his fine voice as Emile Debecque in South Pacific. He loved to eat just the center out of a pie and had been known to whiz around on the lawnmower. He was a gregarious people person and loved his chosen healing profession very much. He was a devoted family man. I know as he joins his family of origin in heaven they will welcome him with open arms along with his Heavenly Father. Another angel for the choir. He will probably be hitting golfballs too while whistling a tune. He is on his best and final trip. Much love, prayers and comfort to Donna,Mary,Jimmy and Laurie and their families.i will miss you Jim. Most sincerely, Donna No. 1

Dear Mrs. Dispenza, Mary, Jim and Laurie, I´m so sorry for your loss. I´m sitting here thinking of the time Dr. Dispenza generously suggested Mary invite me to join you all at an SU basketball game. I always enjoyed spending time with your family. Sending you love and wishing you peace. Erica Machut, LHS 1993

Dr. Dispenza was our family doctor and neighbor for 30+ years. As long as I can remember, the Dispenza home had the BEST Christmas decorations. Nothing brought a smile to his face quicker than when you told him you'd been down to see it. What a wonderful legacy of caring for his family, friends and patients he leaves us with.

Jim and I have been friends since Jamestown High School days class of 1967. Memories of school functions, senior class play, tennis matches, golf games, and cruising around town flood my mind, but the common denominator in all of those activities was the laughter. Jim had a very congenial personality and sense of humor that put everyone at ease. I'm overjoyed that we were able to stay in contact through the years and really reconnect and get together in the last 10 years or so. It meant so much to me to meet his family and learn of the wonderful way that he and Donna blessed not only them, but their community at large. A life well lived my friend! May God bless Donna and their family through this time of grief.

Dear Dad,
It´s hard to put into words how much you meant to all of us. You were a constant source of love, calm, and strength in our lives. To me, you were the kind of father anyone would be lucky to have-and to the kids, you were the most caring and loving Papa. Your quiet wisdom, your sense of humor, and your steady presence are already deeply missed.

We will carry your love and memory with us always. Thank you for everything and treating me like one of your own.
All my love
Siobhan
