James “Jim” Divine passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, at the age of 85 in Southaven Mississippi. Jim was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on February 26, 1939, to Ray and Blanche Divine. After graduating from Noble Lake High School, Jim joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Bermuda for two years. After the service, Jim returned to Pine Bluff and began his long career at International Paper Company. He retired at the age of 61, moving seamlessly into a retirement filled with family, friends and a daily enjoyment of life.
Jim met the love of his life, Dortha Wright Divine, on a blind date in 1960. They married in 1962 and had two children, Mike and Janinne. In 1995, Jim became a grandfather to Dalton. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandpa who made friends easily and often. He will be forever remembered for his gentle personality, friendly nature and easy laugh. An avid baseball fan, some of Jim’s fondest memories were of the times he spent at the ballpark watching grandson Dalton’s ballgames. Jim also cherished his many friends and always looked forward to their regular late afternoon golf-cart meet ups at the neighborhood cove, where many of the world’s issues were discussed and solved in a single meeting.
Jim’s family would like to thank his neighbors Carol, Sylvia, Calvin, Mary Joe and Jimmy for the friendship, warmth and love they showed Jim over the years.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dortha Divine, and his son Mike Divine. He is survived by daughter Janinne DiSalvo (John) and grandson Dalton Divine.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 2:00 pm.
