James Dobson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home on Oct. 29, 2024.
James Bruce Dobson, 'Jim' or as I called him Dad, left this earthly world on Thursday May 4th. Born in Berkley, CA on October 30th 1947 to Francis and Thomas Dobson originally from Texas. A military kid raised mostly in Guam by his mother 'Fran' and stepfather Ken Bright. Jim relocated to Oregon during his senior year of high school in 1966, graduating from Pleasant Hill High School in 1967. A Vietnam War Veteran serving in the Marine Corps; forever a proud and patriotic American.
Fearless in all things, and eternally optimistic - Jim's work ethic was unmatched, and his uncommon grit and resilience were noted by many. If you knew Jim you most certainly recall a story or several. Jim's intelligence, resourcefulness and talents attracted a wide variety of folks – while some took advantage, he always offered his unique form of forgiveness. Far from perfect and certainly flawed but not intentionally mean.
Jim was an avid Raiders football fan, often enjoying going to games with family and friends. For adventure Jim spent time exploring the Hawaiian islands via sailboat, riding his motorcycle and the thrill of flying his plane. Only landing on the freeway 3 times. Jim found humor in feats of strength or will, surprising people with his ability to ride horses, dive, downhill and water ski.
Conventional was never Dad's style and he followed his own path to the end. Jim died at his home in Springfield Oregon. We miss him but are comforted knowing pain and suffering have left his physical body and he can now rest in peace; or knowing Jim he's already back to work in the afterlife. Survived by his Sons Jamie (wife Corey) and Jason Dobson of Eugene, Daughter Jessica Copeland (husband Clint), and Granddaughter Akayla Copeland of Seattle. A celebration of life to share stories will be held in Eugene Oregon near his birthday this October. Details TBD. In lieu of flowers, we ask you please consider a donation to the VA or other military Veteran causes.
Sister Mary Jacobson, Brothers Larry and Mark Bright unknown.
