Michael Own Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 16, 2026.
Michael Patrick Owen (Mike), a devoted father, husband, teacher, and musician, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on December 28, 2025.

Born in Anaheim, California, Mike's early years were marked by adventure, living between Wisconsin and Southern California. His family's work in the entertainment industry led to memorable encounters, including meeting Walt Disney and working as an extra on "The Brothers Grimm" and "The Twilight Zone."

He met his beloved wife (Suzi) of 43 years in high school, and they remained friends for years before falling in love and marrying in 1977. As professional musicians, they traversed the country before settling in California, where they earned Master's degrees in Education and touched countless lives as teachers.

After Suzi's passing in 2020, Mike moved to Springfield, Oregon, to be closer to his daughter, Natasha. He deeply enjoyed his time in Oregon, embracing the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. He is survived by Natasha, his brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, niece, nephews, and many dear friends and relatives.

Mike will be deeply missed and remembered for his sharp wit, sophisticated and delightful sense of humor, deep intellect, and unique one-of-a-kind and full-of-life nature. He possessed a philosophical passion for always learning, teaching, and being of service to others. Mike's unique and vibrant energy impacted all those with whom he came in contact.

He was a seasoned jazz guitarist who more recently made several jam-session cameos at The Jazz Club and Mac's Restaurant and Nightclub, where he connected and cultivated friendships with other local jazz musicians in Eugene, Oregon. Mike was also an avid chess player who regularly competed in the U.S. Open, National Open, and other high-visibility national chess tournaments.

As his daughter would say, he was a truly wonderful, remarkable, and unforgettable man, and one heck of a guitar player. He will be forever missed, loved, and remembered.

A celebration of life will be announced.
