James “Jim” H. Doessel Sr. 82, of North Barrington, IL. Founder-owner and President of Northbrook Racquet Club for 54 years peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, at his home.
Jim was a pillar of the tennis community locally, regionally, and nationally. His induction into the Midwest Tennis Hall of Fame was a testament to all his hard work and devotion to the sport of tennis.
Beloved husband of Maureen (Coffey), loving father to James “Jimmy“ Jr. and Sean, dear father-in-law to Inna and adored grandfather to Daniel and Maria. The cherished uncle to all the Doessels, Coffeys, Goldens, Perrones, Gormans, Strongs, Watkins, and anyone else who called him “Uncle Jim”.
Preceded in death by his parents William and May(Sweeney)Doessel, his sister Virginia and brothers Donald and Robert Sr. Doessel, sister-in-law Karen (Doessel) Fair, and nephews James (infant) and Robert Jr. Doessel.
A classic car enthusiast and Western movie lover as well as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, sailing, boating, and skiing both on and off the water.
Jim will forever be felt in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him, and his legacy will continue to shine through the lives he touched and inspired, both on and off the courts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) for AML cancer.
