James "Jim" E. Dubay

James "Jim" E. Dubay of Bay City was born June 8, 1946 and passed away March 10, 2026 at Symphony Tri-Cities with his family by his side. He was born to the late Ervin and Helen (Wrona) Dubay. Jim graduated from Bay City Central High School and later began his career with the Bay County Sheriff's Department, where he faithfully served for 33 years before retiring.

Jim was a simple Michigan outdoorsman. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family, sharing police stories and making the kids giggle. He enjoyed a good game of cards and was rarely one to sit still for long. Jim stayed very active and never grew old at heart. He enjoyed fishing, but even more so deer hunting. Deer season was when he was in his prime. If he wasn't hunting, he was likely running a chainsaw cutting wood or enjoying a good old Popski.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Kendra and Todd from Advisacare hospice for their excellent care with Jim.

He is survived by his children, Christopher Dubay, Jace Dubay and partner Christine, Joelle (Eric) Sporman, Jamie Dubay, and son-in-law Dirk Loper; his beloved grandchildren, Sarah Dubay, Stephen Dubay, Barbara Moore, Bradyn Lee, Madisyn Lee, Kyle Sporman, Benjamin Sporman, Hailey Sporman, Eathan Davis, Elisa Dubay, Laekin Dubay, Adam Loper, and Emily Loper; and eight great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Michelle Loper; and his sisters, Patricia (Jerry) Lesniak and Janet (Mike) Cabala.

Honoring Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 22, 2026 at Ambrose Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m., with a service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Ambrose Funeral Home.
