Rev. James Duncan, Sr., age 78 of Hardinsburg, KY passed away February 14, 2026, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. He was born in Hardinsburg, KY on April 15, 1947, son of the late Pearl Catherine DeJarnette and Leonard Duncan. He retired from Commonwealth Aluminum. Bro. James was the Pastor of Third Street Baptist Church, where he loved preaching the Gospel. He enjoyed family time, motorcycles, racing cars, detailing cars, grilling, mowing his yard, hanging upside down on his exercise equipment and spending time with Kingston.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson Alphonso Mucker and siblings Lula Johnson, Anna Peterson, Mary Peyton, Sally Robertson, Thomas Duncan, Charles Duncan, Leonard Duncan, Gerald Duncan and Marvin Duncan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bro. James is survived by his wife Joyce Duncan of Hardinsburg, KY

6 children: James Duncan, Jr. (Jamie) of Hawesville, KY; Tijuana Duncan and Rebecca Dean of Hardinsburg, KY; Chelsie Duncan of Radcliff, KY; Lavenia Murray (Dennis) of Irvington, KY and Melissa Shaw Duncan of Texas.

15 grandchildren: Taylor, Damien, Jasmine, Charity, McKenna, Nikita, R J, Kandice, Chris, Tyra, Kiera, Dominique, Jalissa, Isaiah and Kerra

19 great grandchildren

1 brother: Garfield Duncan of Louisville, KY

1 sister: Margaret Mucker of Hardinsburg, KY

3 sisters-in-law: Thurman Duncan of Hardinsburg, KY; Johnnie Duncan of Louisville, KY and Anita Duncan of Irvington, KY

Many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Talbert Chapel United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 1 PM with burial in the Hardinsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Wednesday, 3 – 7 PM and Thursday, 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM.
