Dansville- James A. Earner, age 91, passed away on Tuesday July 29,2025, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness.

He was born in Dansville on January 12, 1934, a son of the late Joseph and Sarah (Freas) Earner. He was also predeceased by his wife Wanda in 2024, his granddaughter Rebecca Earner, a son in-law, Dominic Cosimano, and a brother in-law Ronald McKinney.

Jim proudly graduated from Dansville Central School in 1952. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, dedicating four years of service before receiving an honorable discharge as 2nd Class Petty Officer Electronics Technician. During his time in the Navy, Jim was stationed on the USS Mississippi, where he played a role in an innovative space division collaborating with Westinghouse and Phillips. Jim loved spending time with his wife Wanda, meticulously maintaining their home on Ossian Street in Dansville, taking pride in both its interior and exterior. Jim worked as a supervisor and electrical engineer for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, overseeing a team of technicians and ensuring the smooth operation of black box projects. He carpooled with a group of employees from Dansville for years. Jim was a long-time member of the Dansville Rod and Gun Club, as well as the Daniel Goho post #87 of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he had a passion for coaching youth sports. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church of Dansville where he was an Altar boy as a child.

Jim is survived by two daughters, Sherry (David) Roberts, Laurie Cosimano, a son, Joseph (Ida) Earner, a sister, Mary (Roger) McKinny, a sister in-law Lucy McKinney. nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to a graveside service on Friday August 1st 11:00am at Holy Cross Cemetery in Dansville. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home Funeral Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville. Online memorials may be at HindleFuneralHome.com.
