Larry Earner, 73, passed away on May 21, 2025, in
El Cajon, California. Born on May 26, 1951, in San Diego, California, Larry lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, deep love for his family, and a passion for speed and adventure.
For over five decades, Larry worked as a journeyman plumber, earning the respect of peers and clients alike. In the last 20 years of his career, he served as President of his own plumbing company. His expertise was unmatched-he had an extraordinary ability to design complex plumbing systems for even the most challenging homes. His work graced custom residences throughout La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach, and Coronado. Larry's reputation in the industry was built not only on skill but also on integrity and leadership.
Larry's life was rich beyond his professional accomplishments. He shared 54 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Joan. The couple were married on September 4, 1970, at the Catamaran Chapel in Pacific Beach-a union that became the foundation of a close-knit family. Together they raised their son Dave and welcomed daughter-in-law Jessica into their lives. Larry took immense pride in his grandchildren Zach and Rachel, cherishing every moment spent with them.
A man of many passions, Larry had an enduring love for motorsports. He followed all forms of car racing-NASCAR, Indy Cars, Formula 1, and drag racing-with enthusiasm. In his younger years during the late 1960s and early '70s, he was an avid off-road racer himself. He competed in legendary events such as the Mint 400 and Baja 500 and took part in numerous races across the Borrego desert. These adventures reflected his fearless spirit and zest for life.
Larry also found joy in simpler pleasures-he adored dogs throughout his life and shared a special bond with his beloved Aspen. As a family we drove to Clear Lake every summer to spend time on our jet-skis, water skiing, and visiting the local winery. We also made many trips to camp at the desert where we rode 3-wheelers and dirt bikes. Many stories were shared around the campfire. He and Joan enjoyed frequent trips to Palm Desert where they would relax by the pool or explore the area on their bicycles-moments that brought peace and happiness to them both.
He is survived by his devoted wife Joan; son Dave; daughter-in-law Jessica; and grandchildren Zach and Rachel.
Larry was preceded in death by his brother Dick Earner; sister-in-law Judy Earner; sister Lois Muizers; mother Ruth Earner; cousin-in-law Joyce Dotson; and many beloved dogs who were part of his journey through life.
Larry will be remembered as a caring husband, loving father and grandfather, skilled craftsman, loyal friend, and great teacher to those around him. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched both personally and professionally.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
