James C. Edic, 83, of Westmoreland, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Wynn Hospital in Utica, where he had been a patient since January 22, 2026.
He was born on October 14, 1942, in
Marcy, New York, the son of James F. and Agnes (Linder) Edic. He was a 1961 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School in Utica.
On August 14, 1971, Jim was united in marriage to Shirley J. Roberts in Utica.
Jim was a service man for Agway Energy Services and later Suburban Propane for over forty years, retiring in 2002.
Jim was of the Catholic faith and a member of the Spirit of Hope Parish attending Holy Family Church.
He was a man who found his greatest joy in the outdoors and in guiding others to appreciate it just as deeply. An avid hunter and camper, he felt most at home in the woods, where patience, respect for nature, and quiet reflection came naturally to him.
Jim's lifelong dedication to conservation was evident through his active membership in the New York State Conservation Council. In recognition of his years of commitment, leadership, and advocacy for preserving the natural world, he was proudly inducted into the Council's Hall of Fame, an honor that reflected both his passion and the lasting impact of his work.
Equally meaningful to Jim was his service to youth. For thirty-five years, he served as an Assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 44 of Clark Mills. Generations of Scouts learned from Jim not only practical outdoor skills, but also responsibility, perseverance, and respect for others. His steady presence, quiet guidance, and genuine care helped shape countless young lives.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Shirley; are his two children, Daniel (Jesusa) Edic, of
Washington, DC, and Sarah Jones, of Land O'Lakes, FL; four grandchildren, Sabrina (Andrew) Tucci, Talia Jones, Jamilla Jones, and Anna Louise Edic; his siblings, Kathleen Alexander, of Whitesboro, Joseph (Kathy) Edic, of Marcy, Joan Vivacqua, of Frankfort, Sister Margaret Edic, CSJ, of Latham, Robert (Lisa) Edic, of Marcy, Raymond (Dorothy) Edic, of Marcy, Richard (Michelle) Edic, of Marcy, Carol Edic, of New Hartford, Peter Edic, of Marcy, and Walter (Janice) Edic, of Rome; a sister-in-law, Denise Edic, of Marcy; and many nieces and nephews.
