James Edward “Eddie” Skinner, Jr., 81, of Prosperity, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at his home.
Born on August 24, 1944, in Augusta, GA, he was a son of the late James Edward Skinner, Sr. and Cora Beatrice Sullivan Skinner. Eddie was retired after over 40 years from Augusta Iron & Steel. He enjoyed his many years of bridge building, but upon retirement enjoyed his years of completing many building projects around his house. He also, enjoyed being a part of the Wightman Methodist Church Men’s Club and the numerous projects that they did in helping residents in the community. He was an active member of Wightman Methodist Church.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Templeton Skinner; son, Glen Edward Skinner of Gastonia, NC; a daughter, Gidget (Tim) Rice of Evans, GA; sisters, Angela (Mark) Chavous of Augusta, GA and Jean Waters of Grovetown, GA; a brother, Donnie (Darlene) Skinner of Evans, GA; grandchildren, Travis Nagy, Ashley (Jayme) Kitchens, Kaitlyn Skinner and McKenzie Skinner and great-grandchildren, Kensley Nagy, Easton Nagy and Waylon Kitchens. He was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Nagy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Wightman Methodist Church by the Rev. Gryf Carosiella. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Wightman Methodist Church on Wednesday from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-3000.
Active pallbearers will be Glen Skinner, Travis Nagy, Clay Skinner, Jayme Kitchens, Ron Charette, and Riley Odum.
