James Ray Edwards, 91, of Cleveland, TN passed away on November 16, 2024. He was born on November 22, 1932 to the late Charles and Beulah Edwards. Jimmy had a great sense of humor. When he was younger he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. He was actively involved as a member, adult Sunday school teacher, and deacon at Michigan Ave Baptist Church for many years. He received a Purple Heart as a United States Army Veteran after serving as a tank commander in the Korean War. He was also a Sergeant and received a Korean Peace Medal.
In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Robert Edwards, Donnie Edwards, Billy Edwards; sisters: Dot Davis and Joy Andies.
He leaves behind to cherish to his memory his loving wife of nearly 73 years Patsy Edwards; children: James "Ray" Edwards Jr., Tim Edwards (Cindy), Tony Edwards, Ginger Leonard (Scott); sister Pat Wells; brother Larry Edwards (Marshelia); grandchildren: Eric Edwards (Jana), Jamie Edwards, Autumn Edwards, Savannah Edwards, Brooke Anderson (James), Brandon Edwards (Holly), Chase Austin (Julia), Jeremy Edwards (Ruth), Emily Parson (Ronnie), Ashlee Kapteina (Chris), Josh Cantrell (Julie); 23 great-grandchildren; and identical twin great-great grandchildren. In addition to these he leaves behind numerous extended family members and a host of friends.
A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held at 2pm at on Thursday November 21st at the "Ridge Chapel" of Companion Funeral & Cremation Service located at 2412 Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland, TN 37311. His family will receive friends from 11:30am until the service at 2pm. He will be laid to rest following the service at Michigan Avenue Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Coby Goins will be officiating.
