James Engle Obituary

James "Jack" Engle, known lovingly as Jack, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Feb. 25, 2026.
Jack was born on Aug. 12, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Mattie "Irene" Wilson. He was raised with the strong guidance of his stepfather, Jess "Punch" Wilson, who was a lasting and important influence in his life. Jack grew up alongside seven sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by his close and loving sister, Joyce (Art) Windsor; all of the rest have preceded him in death along with his son, Jesse Engle.
Jack grew up in Ohio and later lived in Waterford and Highland, before recently calling Oscoda home. He married the love of his life, Sandra "Sandy" Engle, on June 14, 1979, in Pontiac. Sandra "Sandy" Engle preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2026.
He is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Bob) Bingham, Toni (Jamie Barnes) Engle and Angie (Brittany Bucknam) Engle; and sons, Charlie Engle and Kelly Engle; many nieces and nephews; numerous grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. J
ack's greatest joy was his family, especially the time spent at the family cabin in Houghton Lake. He and Sandy spent summers and weekends there, creating memories that will last generations. As his grandchildren grew, he loved teaching them how to cut wood, build a proper fire, fish – especially late-night catfishing – and use the wood splitter. The cabin was always open to extended family, filled with laughter and togetherness.
Jack was a strong man, devoted husband, proud father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who loved him.
