VASSAR – Mr. James Walter “Jim” Ervin, age 57, passed away in his sleep on February 9, 2026.

James was born in Flint, Michigan, on July 16, 1968, to Raymond & JoAnne (Duvernois) Ervin. He will be remembered for his kind personality and caring ways. He would often help others and place their needs before his. For the previous 19 years he cared for his mother, JoAnn. James had a playful, sarcastic side and was always quick with a joke or phrase to make one feel better. He took great pride in raising his daughters and loved doting on his grandchildren and great-nephews. In his free time, he enjoyed working on cars with his brother and attending car shows. James was also a great mentor in teaching finance. He took care of his mother’s finances and helped others with their tax returns and creating a budget. Above all, James loved his family and the time that he spent with them.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Krystal Burks of Flint, MI; stepdaughter, Stephanie Hoskins of Flint, MI; mother, JoAnn Ervin of Vassar, MI; brother, Raymond Ervin, Jr. and his wife Helen (Cummings) of Caro, MI; sister, Christina Sayles and Mike Moore of Burton, MI; nieces, Amber Whittier of Oceanside, CA; Libbey and Martin Chelekis of Saint Charles, MI; and Morgan Sayles of St. Charles, MI; granddaughters, Kira and Kacey Hoskins of Flint, MI; great-nephews, Arnold, Demetri, and Theo of St. Charles, MI; aunts and uncles, Sharon Linstrom of Lake Orion, MI; Walt and Darlene Duvernois of Clio, MI; and Sandy Duvernois of Millington, and Clifford Duvernois.

James was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Ervin, Sr.; brother, Paul Ervin; beloved dog, Bubba; and cat, Emma.

Funeral services for Jim will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington; visitation at the funeral home will begin at 11:00 A.M. and last until the time of service.
