James (Jim) John Ferguson, 86, of
Naples, Florida, passed away on November 16, 2025, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by the love of his family.
Jim was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, on May 31, 1939, to John Edward and Margaret Ferguson. He grew up in Folsom, Pennsylvania, and attended Ridley Township High School before joining the U.S. Marine Corps.
He went on to build a long and respected career as a plumber in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. He began as a residential plumber, the guy everyone trusted to "fix it right the first time!" His skill, dependability, and honesty made him the first call for countless families.
As his reputation grew, he joined the Philadelphia Plumbers Union, where he remained a proud member for 35 years. Jim eventually became a foreman, overseeing major commercial and institutional projects including schools, research centers, and large facilities that needed someone steady, experienced, and trustworthy. His coworkers admired him, respected him, and many became lifelong friends.
Jim was active, social, and happiest on the move. He loved hiking, biking, rock climbing, white-water rafting, and golf, he never turned down a chance to be outdoors. His adventures took him far and wide, including unforgettable climbs up Mt. Hood and Mt. Washington, just to name a few. He also loved traveling, especially internationally, and his favorite country of all was Italy.
He made friends wherever he went and had a natural gift for storytelling, people often lingered a little longer just to hear one more tale. He even had a funny "plumbing man" song and dance he'd break into while telling stories, and it never failed to make everyone laugh.
Jim and Pat were destined to be together. They first met as children when Jim was in fourth grade and Pat was in first grade. They bumped into each other in the schoolyard and Pat fell-though she admitted she mostly remembered how cute he was. Eleven years later, they reconnected, went on a date, and have been together ever since.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Pat (Rankin) Ferguson, to whom he was devoted for 65 years; his three children, Patti Ferguson, Jimmy Ferguson, and Michael Ferguson; and two granddaughters, all of whom will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Avow Hospice House in Naples for the exceptional kindness and care they provided during Jim's final days. Their compassion and support brought great comfort to both Jim and his family.
Donations in Jim's name may be made to Avow Hospice at AvowCares.org.
Jim will be remembered for his humor, his sharp wit, his adventurous spirit, and his ability to connect with others. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held in
Naples, Florida, at a later date, with arrangements to be announced by the family.
