James Filey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaines Funeral Home - Maple Heights on Feb. 24, 2026.
Public Viewing- Thursday, February 26, 2026, 12:00 NOON until 8:00 P.M.

James Daniel Filey, Jr. was born in Cleveland, OH to the parents of James Ross Filey and Margaret Filey. Family and close friends knew him as "Danny". He was the oldest of four brothers and one sister, all of whom are deceased. He received his former education in the Cleveland Public School District where he graduated from East Technical High School. There, he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Fair Filey. During this union, five children were born: Kenneth Filey (Queenie), Alfonzo Fair (Tina) Jerome Filey, Linnard Filey, (deceased), and Danielle Filey. Danny was a man of his word and would stand his ground if needed. He was a true baseball fan and would go to see the Cleveland Indians religiously. Baseball was his life and his true calling as he played in high school and later played baseball that was formed with his co-workers. Danny was employed with the City of Cleveland Department of Sanitation and later was employed with Eastern Airlines. At an early age, Danny knew that he would leave the cold climate. He kept his promise and moved the family to Atlanta, GA while still working for Eastern Airlines. No more driving in the snow, no more shoveling the snow from the sidewalk, and no more working outside in frigid temperatures. Yes, Danny was a man of his word! He was man who lived life to the fullest. After his 21 years of service with Eastern Airlines, he worked at the High Museum of Art for over 10 years and finally volunteered at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport for 16 years where he received a several awards for his excellent service and dedication. He was an Atlanta Braves fan attending

games every season and he had extensive collection of jazz music. He enjoyed international traveling, going to concerts, excellent restaurants, spending time with family, but most importantly, going to the gym. Shortly after his wife died, a beautiful matrimony that lasted for 63 years, his health slowly begin to decline. Danny elevated into Heaven on Wednesday evening, February 18, 2026. He is survived by his three sons, one daughter, two granddaughters, one grandson, and one great- grandson. A man who lived life to the fullest will be missed.

Donald Trimble Mortuary, Inc., 1876 Second Avenue, Decatur, 404-371-0772-3.
