Robert H. Filey

Robert Howard Filey, known affectionately as Bobby to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024, at the age of 82, in Twinsburg, Ohio. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 11, 1942, Bobby led a life characterized by humor, intelligence, and wisdom, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love.
Bobby grew up in Cleveland, a city that would always hold a special place in his heart. After graduating from Max S Hayes Trade School, he embarked on a rewarding career with General Motors, dedicating 34 years of service before his well-deserved retirement. Bobby's commitment to his work was paralleled only by his devotion to his family and friends.
Those who knew Bobby will remember him as a man who could light up any room with his quick wit and easy smile. He leaves behind his wife, Martha Ann Filey, with whom he married in 1968. Bobby was a proud father to his son, Timothy Thornton (Danielle), and daughter, LaTisha Coleman (Nathaniel). The joy he found in his role as a grandfather was evident in every moment he spent with his grandsons, Clayton Catrell Simpson (Audya), Timothy Thornton Jr., and Tevin Thornton. He is survived by his brother, James Filey, and a host of nieces and nephews who will all miss him deeply.
Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Yvette Filey, his parents James Ross and Margaret Filey, and his siblings Carol Flynn, Donald Filey, Milton Filey, and Walter Filey.
A man of many interests, Bobby enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He could often be found listening to his favorite music or engaging in lively card games with friends. Those close to him knew that a gathering was not complete without Bobby's presence and his unique ability to turn any moment into a memorable one.
Bobby's humor and intelligence made him a wise confidant and an unforgettable brother, father, Papa and friend. His stories, often punctuated with laughter, will be retold and cherished by those who were fortunate enough to hear them.
The void left by Bobby's passing will be felt by many, but the memories he created will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those he touched. His life was a testament to the enduring power of love, family and friendship.
We say farewell to Robert Howard Filey, a man who was not just the life of the party but also enjoyed the presence of his family. He will be missed immensely but never forgotten, as his legacy lives on in the lives of those he loved.
