James FitzPatrick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by All Veterans Funeral & Cremation - Colorado Springs on Mar. 13, 2026.
James Michael FitzPatrick, age 83, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2026. At the time of his passing, he was living with his caring son and daughter-in-law in Colorado Springs.

Jim was born in New York and raised in Richland, Washington, to James J. FitzPatrick and Katherine (Smith) FitzPatrick. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he worked as a Civil Engineer for 21 years and achieved the distinguished rank of Chief Master Sergeant. At the time, Jim was the youngest enlisted service member to attain the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.

Following his military career, Jim continued his dedication to public service. He first served as the Director of Public Works for the City of Idaho Springs, Colorado. He later held the same position with the City of North Las Vegas, Nevada, before transitioning into the funeral profession, where he worked as a funeral director with Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jim had a deep appreciation for life's simple joys. He loved traveling, spending time BBQing with family and friends, relaxing in the hot tub, and trying his luck at gambling. He was also a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos and NASCAR. Known for his warm personality, Jim had a genuine interest in people and their stories. Whether greeting a close friend or a complete stranger, he was well known for his friendly phrase, "How we doin'?"

A bit of a Casanova in his younger days, Jim was fortunate to experience two great loves in his life. He shared 19 wonderful years with his first wife, Iris Carter. In 1981, he met Ruby Hawkins, and together they shared 41 loving years before her passing in 2022.

Jim is survived by his sister, Kathleen FitzPatrick; his children, Michael (Kim) FitzPatrick, Christina FitzPatrick, and Martin "Marty" (Cheryl) FitzPatrick; and his stepdaughter, Pam McLeod. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Sarah, Jacob, Ben, Annaliese, Christian, and Logan.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Committal Service with retired Air Force Honors will be held at Pikes Peak National Cemetery on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
