Scott Spivey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by All Veterans Funeral & Cremation - Colorado Springs on Mar. 6, 2026.
Scott Alan Spivey, 76, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on November 18, 1949, in Storm Lake, Iowa, Scott lived a life defined by service, dedication, and deep commitment to family, country, and community.

Sergeant First Class Spivey (Ret.) served more than 20 years in the U.S. Army, dedicating himself to leadership and duty to his country. His assignments took him across the United States and overseas, including Korea and Germany. As a senior noncommissioned officer, he took particular pride in helping Soldiers succeed in their careers.

Among his military honors were the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), reflecting more than two decades of distinguished service.

He also received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Service Medal for the Vietnam and Gulf War eras, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. His work developing future Soldiers was further recognized through Army recruiting honors, including the Gold Recruiter Badge and the Basic Recruiter Badge with Sapphire Achievement Stars.

Following his military retirement, Scott continued his lifelong commitment to service through education. He earned a master's degree in teaching from Colorado College and went on to teach middle school history and social studies for more than 20 years, focusing on learning, respect for history, and helping young people grow into thoughtful citizens.

Above all, Scott was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Un Hui; his daughters, Kristy Spivey Harrison (Jeffrey Harrison) and Monica Spivey (Jeremy Carson); and his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Benjamin Harrison, who brought him immense pride and joy.

He is also survived by his sister, Lynelle; brother, John; stepsister Beverly Naig; and stepbrother Richard (Tricia) Selberg; along with cousins, extended family members, and friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him. He was predeceased by his beloved father, Lawrence; mother, Muriel; stepmother, LaVonne; sister, Carolee; stepsister Linda Selberg and her husband, Joseph Hollenkamp; and stepbrother Leslie Selberg and his wife, Jennifer.

Those who knew Scott remember a man of humor, generosity, and quiet strength.

Scott enjoyed traveling, woodworking, history, storytelling, good food, strong coffee, and spending time with his family. He could craft almost anything from wood, fix nearly anything that broke, delight others with card tricks, crack excellent dad jokes, write epic rhyming birthday and anniversary poems, and impress everyone with his trivia knowledge. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Interment with military honors will take place at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) in his memory.

We had the honor of knowing Scott as our backyard neighbor when we lived on Gilcrest Terrace. He was a great neighbor, always willing to help out with the fence or other projects. His sense of humor was memorable and quick. We moved away in 2006 but remember him well. We are confident he is marveling at the beauty of heaven as he embarks on the greatest history lesson ever.
