Joan E. (Tonelli) Malanson, 86, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Robert D. Malanson, who passed in 2008.

She leaves her devoted daughters, Linda Sansoucy and her husband Mark, of Worcester, Susan Michalowski and her husband Timothy, of Worcester, and Patricia Malanson and her wife Sheila Smith, of Auburn; four cherished grandchildren, Robert Sansoucy and his wife Emily, of Paxton, Trevor Sansoucy and his wife Colleen, of Auburn, Jessica Bermingham and her husband Rob, of Worcester, and Joe Michalowski and his wife Tara, of Bellingham; her great-grandchildren, Brigid, Addison, TJ, Mia, Eliana, Nina, and Logan, whom she adored; along with her brother, Robert Tonelli and his wife Janet, of Henderson, NV; one nephew; and one niece.

Joan was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Joseph G. and Ann (Shattys) Tonelli. She was raised and educated in Worcester as well, graduating from St. Stephen's High School. Joan worked for many years as a Secretary at the Durkin Administration Building in Worcester.

Joan could be found, most often, at her Brookdale Eddy Pond residence playing Bingo, or watching New England sports, but especially the Patriots and Celtics. She also loved rooting for the Duke University basketball team, the Blue Devils, and her favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox.

Above all, Joan's world was her family, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by those she loved and cared for.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home for their extraordinary care and compassion for Joan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home (https://vnacarenetwork.ejoinme.org/VNACare - please select 'Rose Monahan' from the dropdown).

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Malanson family between 10:00 – 11:30 AM on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, with a prayer service to begin at 11:30 AM. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
