Ann Kathryn Flatjord was full of warmth and adventure, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born on February 2, 1963, in Osage, Iowa, Ann's life was filled with close-knit family bonds, lifelong friendships, and an unwavering dedication to all.
The daughter of William and Barbara (Klaes) Martin, Ann grew up in a bustling household with five siblings on the family farm in Riceville. Through her childhood days, she balanced farm chores and spontaneous trips to Lake Hendricks. Ann graduated from Riceville High School in 1981.
Ann's heart found its match in Bruce Flatjord from Jerico, and their love story began a new chapter as they exchanged vows on April 7, 1984. Together, they built not just a house, but a home in Jerico, where they lovingly raised four daughters. It was within the walls of this home that Ann's nurturing spirit and unwavering support flourished. Ann showed the way to the girls of doing the right thing wherever they could. The home was always open, whether someone needed a place to stay for a couple of nights or a few months. She welcomed them in without hesitation. Over the years, she unofficially adopted so many friends who became family, simply because that is who she was.
For 35 years, Ann was employed by Trimark in New Hampton, Iowa, retiring in 2022. Beyond her professional life, she found joy in lending a hand at Jerico Jo's and supporting her community. Ann always brought a smile and a helping hand to those around her, wherever she could.
Ann's interests embraced life's simple pleasures and grand adventures with equal enthusiasm. She loved getting together with her family and friends to laugh, catch up, and just enjoy life. She had "happy feet" and loved to dance when the music came on. She never missed a casino trip and she loved to take trips. The family had annual adventures to Madison Lake in Minnesota. She also enjoyed Taco Tuesday's and ladies nights. She found joy in every little tradition and moment of laughter. Ann embraced life with humor, warmth and a little sparkle in her eye and those moments showed how full of life she truly was.
Ann's life philosophy, "Less is more," reflected her belief in the richness of simplicity and the importance of cherishing the moment. She was a loving and friendly soul, whose adventurous spirit inspired all who knew her. Ann's legacy is one of a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the courage to embrace every moment.
Ann Kathryn Flatjord's memory will live on in the hearts of the countless lives she enriched. Ann is survived by her mother, Barbara Martin (Dean Lionberger) of Stacyville, IA; four daughters, Jamie (Brad) Hart and Jessica (Tucker) Anderson of West Des Moines, IA, Christina Flatjord and Amanda (Bryce) Druvenga of Jerico, IA; nine grandchildren, Paige Hart, Madison Hart, Koiy Miller, Tatum Miller, Graham Hart, Ryanne Flatjord, Ozzlyn Anderson, William Druvenga and Waylon Druvenga; brother, Mark (Lori) Martin of Decorah, IA; sisters, Elaine (Rod) Gerbig of Stacyville, IA, Pam (Duane) Beard of Indianola, IA, and Patty Martin of Mason City, IA.
