James J. Fox of Mt. Laurel, NJ passed away on Thursday August 28, 2025 at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband of Marilyn J. Fox(Ortmann), celebrating 67 years of married life together. The loving, supportive father of Stephanie, Thomas and his wife Laurie, Dann and his wife Tina, Gary and his wife Maura. Jim cherished his grandchildren Zachary Johnson (wife LeeAnn), Amy Schulze (husband Rob), Katie Brown (husband Bobby), Jake Fox and Ethan Fox. He loved supporting them in all their endeavors, was so proud of them, and was their biggest fan. Adoring Great Grandpa to Andrew Schulze and Lillian Brown, who brought pure joy to his life. Jim is the loving son of deceased Rose and Scoop Fox and the brother of Bob. Raised on the West Side of Cleveland, Jim enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. His love of music led him to playing both the saxophone and clarinet. He attended Case Western Reserve, majoring in mechanical engineering and becoming a lifelong dedicated brother of Sigma Chi fraternity (proudly, John Wayne was a brother). It was here that he met the love of his life from the East Side of Cleveland, his Sigma Chi sweetheart, Marilyn. Together, they moved their family from Novelty, Ohio to Mt. Laurel, New Jersey where they resided together for over 57 years. He eventually started his 30-year career at Langston, where he oversaw the Parts Department for machinery that produces corrugated board (not cardboard!) for boxes. He ultimately served as Director of Marketing. Jim firmly believed in leaving a place better than it was found. This is evident in the many volunteer positions he held throughout the Township of Mt. Laurel. He was the treasurer for the Boys Scouts and a very enthusiastic Pinewood Derby supporter. In the Mount Laurel School District, he served in various positions, including President of Parkway Elementary School PTA. Jim could be seen at all the Greentree Recreation fields in Mt. Laurel, serving as head coach for football (proudest of 65 lb football team playing at the Convention Center in Atlantic City), baseball, basketball, soccer, as well as Commissioner of the girls basketball program. He devoted many years to Greentree Recreation, eventually serving as its President. He was an original board member of the Green Acres Advisory Board for Mt. Laurel, holding the positions of Vice President, Secretary and Chairman. This committee was the driving force behind the eventual establishment of Laurel Acres Park, which is enjoyed by thousands each year. A few of the many passions in his life included rooting for both his hometown Cleveland and adopted-home Philly sports team. Ohio never left his blood and he bled Red and Grey for Ohio State football. His lifelong passion for golf was nurtured by his father and highlighted with a Hole-in-One on July 17, 2009 at Mays Landing Golf Club on hole #2. Jim and Marilyn also held a passion for everything Disney. They shared many happy times there with their children and grandchildren. Jim's passion for model trains began as a child, and his childhood trains would be under the Christmas tree every year. Eventually, he built a large outdoor display containing buildings he made by hand. It was a scale reproduction of Museumdorf, a preserved historic German village near the childhood home of his father-in-law Alvin Ortmann. He enjoyed sharing his various train displays with family, visitors and the children of Braddock Terrace and the Penn Oak neighborhood. He thoroughly enjoyed being an active part of the South Jersey Railroad Club. A devout Catholic, he generously donated his time to his church in various aspects, including providing crucial support and guidance for the construction of the current St. John Neumann church. He also served as Director and Leader for Discovery, a Young People's Support Organization. Jim devoted much time in his retirement volunteering at Give Kids The World in Kissimmee, Florida. He could be found giving kids rides on their train and delivering late night pizzas. He was an ambassador for them in NJ, raising funds for terminally ill children and their families to stay at their facility and enjoy Orlando-area attractions. Memorial visitation will be on October 10, 2025 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 1603 Marne Hwy, Hainesport, NJ, from1:00 to 2:00PM. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00PM In lieu of flowers, Jim wanted any contributions to go to: Give Kids The World, 210 S. Bass Road, Kissimmee Fl. 34746.
