James S. Gaither, 71, of Plano, Texas entered eternal rest on January 5, 2026. A beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, James will be deeply remembered. Born on November 27,1954 in Camden, South Carolina, James was the son of the late James A. Gaither and Annie Mae Gaither.

His youth was spent in Connecticut where James was educated. After graduating from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, James began a career in the purchasing and logistics field with Hallmark Cards. On August 11, 1984, James married the love of his life, Gwendolyn, and together they shared more than four decades of love, laughter, and partnership. The couple relocated to Texas in 1986, where they raised their son, James W. Gaither. James retired from Abbott Laboratories Diagnostic Division in Irving, Texas where he was admired for his intelligence, professionalism, and steady leadership.

James had many passions—he was an avid reader, football fan, lover of music and movies, especially spaghetti westerns and enthusiastic traveler. His thoughtful perspective and easy wit brightened countless conversations.

James is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Gaither of Plano, Texas; son James W. Gaither (Sarah) of Lewisville, Texas; sister Anna G. Jackson, of Bridgeport, Connecticut; brother Ray Gaither, of Bridgeport, Connecticut; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents James A. and Annie M. Gaither.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Allen Family Funeral Options.
