It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James “Jimmy” Garst on September 26, 2025 at the age of 64.  Born on July 8, 1961, in Baltimore, MD, Jimmy lived life to the fullest and left a lasting impression on every person he met.  Jimmy graduated from Brooklyn Park High School in 1979 and went on to become a chemical operator at W.R. Grace.  While working at W.R. Grace, he played baseball for Davison Chemical K-1 Team and traveled annually to play in different states with the team winning multiple awards.  In 2022, Jimmy retired from W.R. Grace after 42 years of hard work and dedication to spend more time with his family and to enjoy his hobbies. Jimmy and his wife, Kelly, were two peas in a pod for 34 years and enjoyed their life together.  They went on to have two children, Tyler and Autumn, who he loved dearly and moved to Stevensville, MD as their final home.

Beyond his role as a husband and father, Jimmy enjoyed watching and cheering on many sports such as baseball, football, NASCAR, and many others.  Some of his favorite teams were the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens.  From an early age he was an avid baseball card and memorabilia collector and was able to rekindle his passion after retirement.  Growing up with his mom and dad, he enjoyed visiting the racetrack at Laurel Park and playing cards at his grandmother’s house with family.  Later on in life after moving to Kent Island, his passion for the outdoors grew with lots of fishing and crabbing on the Chester River.  One of his favorite things that we all know and love about him, is how much he loved eating crabs.  Jimmy was also a music lover and concertgoer who even played the guitar.

Jimmy was a beloved son, husband, father, and grandfather to his grandpup.  He is survived by his wife, Kelly Garst; his son, Tyler Garst; his daughter, Autumn Garst; and his grandpup, Finn.  He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Garst and his mother, Ardis R. Garst.  He will be missed by many close family and friends as well.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 3rd at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, which is located at 1 Second Ave. SW, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.  A service will take place on Saturday, October 4th at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  The service will be live streamed for those that cannot attend in person https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84250171056.  A Celebration of Life is taking place after the service at The American Legion on Kent Island which is located at 800 Romancoke Rd.  Stevensville, MD 21666.  Everyone is more than welcome to come, food and regular drinks will be provided but alcoholic drinks will need to be purchased from the Legion.
