James “Jim” C Genty, 89, passed away on January 25, 2026 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Jim was born in Minneapolis, MN on June 12, 1936.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia; children Shannon Henriksen (Al),Colleen Bohlinger, Heather Hendrix (Daniel), Greg Wood (Janet),Colleen Johnson (Keith), Cindy Brown (Mark), and Nick Genty (Jennifer). Jim is also survived by his grandchildren Jill Robbins, Jessica Mann, Zack Smith, Kirby Smith, Rebecca Murdock, Caleb Wood, Emily King, Josh Genty, Luke Genty, Justin Henriksen, Jake Henriksen, Will Henriksen, Peggy Brook Pleimann, Jon Bohlinger, Sally Lester, Sara Surbrook, Ben Surbrook, Emily Surbrook, Alanis Gilkison, Shelby Barnheiser, Randy Olmsted, and Peyton Olmsted. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Owen, Claire, Bob, Lucy, Ayla, Briella, Brinley, Oliver, Parker, Claire, Lucy, Logan, Tucker, Callie Jo, Abby, Noah, Henry, Caroline, Irene, Lizzie, Gavin, and Nolan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Lyal Genty, his son, Robert Surbrook (Ellen), and a great-grandchild, Noah. Jim and Pat spent a great deal of time visiting as many of these families as they could. They attended weddings, graduations, reunions, ball games, school concerts, and recitals.
A proud U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant, Jim served his country from 1955-1958. He was a founding member of the Sidney S McMath Detachment 532 Marine Corps League (formerly the Razorback Detachment) and served as Commandant for a year.
Jim was very devoted to his faith, serving as a lector at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He volunteered at many events including the Men’s Club Fish Frys and the IHMC Annual Fall Festival. He also belonged to the Parish Council and headed up the Council as President for a term.
Jim’s favorite things to do were reading military genre books, working in the yard, holding the many new babies and decorating the family Christmas tree each year. He will be missed by many because he was loved and respected by all.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 followed by Rosary and Funeral Services at 10:30 am Saturday, February 7 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. 7006 Jasna Gora Drive Marche.
