James "Jimmy" George Sr.

James "Jimmy" Fletcher George Sr., 88, of El Campo, passed away November 17, 2025. He was born at home in Louise on October 9, 1937 to the late James and Timmie Appling George. Jimmy graduated from Louise High School in 1955. He was a firefighter for the El Campo Volunteer Fire Department for 43 years. After retirement, he continued his duty as Chaplain. As a longtime employee of Rice Farmers' Coop, he dedicated his time to the service of the customers. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge with 50 years of service. As a member of First Christian Church, he held the position of Elder and president of the church board.

Our family has lost a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His kindness and generous spirit will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn Sue Martin George; children, Jimmy George Jr. (Sharron), Rex George (Yvette) and Pamela Labay (Wade); daughter-in-law, Susan George Labay (Lawrence); grandchildren, Jeffrey Labay (Sarah), Amie Kocian (Chad), Claressa Willis (Chris), Brandon George, Jessica Labay (Jon), Blake George, Tyler George (Hayley), Alycia Irvin (Stephen), Clint George (Mary) and Erica Saavedra (Joseph); 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way and one great-great-grandchild.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard "Dickie" George and brother, Bill George.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 23 at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 24 at First Christian Church in El Campo with Pastor Adraylle Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Labay, Brandon George, Blake George, Tyler George, Clint George and Gaige Kocian. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters and the members of the El Campo Volunteer Fire Department.

Memorial donations in memory of Jimmy may be made to El Campo Volunteer Fire Department, Houston Hospice – El Campo or First Christian Church.
