"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Revelation 21:4
We celebrate the life of our beloved Daddy, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Cousin James Glaspy, affectionately called "Boo."
James was born May 10, 1929, in Hammond, LA to the union of Lucretia and Jake Glaspy. He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Raspberry at New Bethel Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, MI. He later moved his membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. John E. Watson. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, President of the Usher Board, on the Trustee Board and he attended Sunday School for many years. Later, James joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under late Rev. Emery Varrie, Sr. He was a faithful member until his health failed.
James was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. After service he worked at Auto Specialty, Meijer and Hardy Janitorial Service until he retired. He is a member of Harbor Lodge 15 Masonic Mason. James enjoyed riding his bike, going to yard sales and flea markets, painting, riding his lawn mower around town and taking care of his yard. Not only did he take care of his yard but everyone's on the block. He really enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids. He would help anyone that came into contact with him. He was a caring, kind and giving person. To know him is to love him. His favorite sayings were "Boy, Boy, Boy" and "So stupid" and "Just keep living." His two favorite scriptures that he often quoted were Psalm 122 and 2 Chronicles 7:14. Not only did he raise all of his children, but he also raised some of his nieces, nephews, and grandkids.
Left to cherish his memory: his wife, Diane Glaspy; two sons: Fritz Webb of Kalamazoo, MI and Bryant (Pamela) Williams of Lawton, OK, 11 daughters: Lisa Glaspy Bobo of Dallas, TX, Lucretia Glaspy of Brighton, TN, Diana Wright, Independence, LA and Audrey Walker of New Orleans, LA Debra Ann Webb and Brenda Manning of Milwaukee, WI, Vera Webb, Janice Hamilton, June Hill, Lois (Frank) Calhoun and Catherine (Jeff) Bell all of Benton Harbor, MI.
