James Grantham

Mr. James Howard Grantham, 87, of Grenada, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023 at his residence. He was born April 6, 1935 in Sweatman to Allen L. and Mary Lucy Lamkin Grantham. James honorably served our country in the US Army and attended Elliott Baptist Church. James wore many hats in his working career and possessed a tremendous work ethic. He served as a member of the Grenada Police Department where he earned the rank of Captain and also worked for many years in Sales at Sears. Following his first retirement, he then enjoyed another 20-year career at Sunset Chrysler. He was a founding member and Past-President of the Kirk Hunting Club. A talented musician, he enjoyed playing the guitar and attending Pickin' At The Lake. James was a gifted conversationalist and had a very unique way of putting those in his presence at ease. He will be missed for many years to come.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 5, 2023 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Rev. Joe Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Elliott Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time Sunday at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dolores Grantham; four daughters, Holly Williams(Mark) of Grenada, Kelly Wade(Robin) of Birmingham, AL, Linda Grantham of Grenada and Lisa Grantham of Ridgeland; step-son, Lance Ware(Betty) of Grenada; nine grandchildren, Andrew Williams, Faith Williams, Corbett Wade, Myers Wade, Kelsey Wade, Lorin Ware, Lanie Ware, Haley Adams and Cody Adams; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Lizzie Belle Jones, Mattie Lee Pullen, Claudia Raye Blaylock, Lillian Russell and Polly Parker and two brothers, John Allen Grantham, Sr. and Pete Grantham.
