I would like to express my sincere condolences to Bau´s family. I never met Bau although I occasionally bumped into him at the Center for Cultural Exchange. I did however attend many performances that he and Phyllis organized and presented. He introduced me to many musicians and genres from around the world. Throat singers, Afropop, American avant-garde jazz, and American treasures like Tony Bennett all came to Portland because he brought them. I still listen to many of the musicians he introduced me to. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and taste. You made my world a better place.

Bau was a colleague, a mentor, a travel partner, a musical inspiration, in some ways a brother to me. His departure is a puncture. His huge legacy lives on.

James Graves Obituary
When Bau Graves sauntered onto the stage before a performance, his enthusiasm was intoxicating. Whether a soukous band from the Republic of Congo, the Kronos Quartet from California, The Five Blind Boys from Alabama–or a massive mandolin ensemble... Read James Graves's Obituary
