James J. Griglun, or Jim, beloved husband of the late Susan Griglun, passed away on January 23, 2026, in Buzzards Bay.
Jim was born in 1935 in
Bridgeport, CT, to Catherine and James Griglun. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served from 1956 to 1958 as a voice Radio Operator trained to transcribe Morse Code signals. Following his service, Jim received his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Bridgeport and began his career buying and selling surplus and second-hand machinery. He then founded Confab, a Connecticut manufacturer of waste, recycling, and hazardous-material containers which he owned and operated for over ten years.
Jim and Sue moved from
Westport, CT to West Falmouth in 1999 and immersed themselves in the community. An avid reader of historical fiction and nonfiction, Jim joined the board of the West Falmouth Library and volunteered his time, discussing capital projects and helping organize and account for their annual book sale. He especially loved cruising West Falmouth Harbor or the Bay in his boat, Graylag, and often took family and friends out to fish and shellfish in the waters off Chapoquoit. Jim never met a dog he didn't love and found great joy in the company of his furry companions. With his extensive knowledge of vegetable gardening, he meticulously planted and harvested hundreds of tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and (as requested by his twin granddaughters) pumpkins, year after year. His friends and family know they were lucky, for he was a stellar listener and a magnetic conversationalist with a keen interest in people and what makes them tick. He could strike up an engaging conversation with just about anyone he met.
Jim will be greatly missed by his daughter, Paige Griglun and son-in-law, Gary DiPietro, of
St. Petersburg, FL and his cherished granddaughters, Eliza and Genevieve Youngman, of
New York City, NY.
He will be buried alongside his wife at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on February 20, 2026, at 1:45pm.
In place of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Jim to the West Falmouth Library, PO Box 1209,
West Falmouth, MA 02574.
