Robert "Bob" Fitzpatrick, 89, of
West Falmouth, Massachusetts, formerly of Natick, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, after a long struggle with dementia.
Bob was born in
Brighton, MA to Robert and Eleanor Fitzpatrick. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1954 and Northeastern University in 1959, where he started dating Winnie Conlin. They married in 1960 and enjoyed 65 years of marriage, raising 3 children: David, Jim, and Lynne (deceased). He's survived by his wife, two sons and their wives Phyllis and Kelly, and his grandchildren Ilana, Leanne, Devon and his fiancée Alex, Justin and his wife Cassie, and great granddaughter Sophie.
Bob began his career as a Northeastern University engineering co-op student at the Watertown Arsenal, where he worked for 40 years, first as a mechanical engineer and later as a project manager. His work focused on protecting people and reflected his commitment to public service and his belief in the power of science to solve problems. Possessing an inquisitive nature, he loved teaching about science and the wonders of our world.
He and Winnie created space and time for his kids to play and explore. With his father-in-law, Bob rebuilt a burned-out summer house in Cedarville, turning it into a home his family enjoyed for many summers. He made time for his family, driving to Florida and various camping venues over the years, and one summer took 8 weeks to drive the family across the country and back, camping, visiting the national parks, friends and family along the way.
Bob loved working on projects with friends and family. Next to raising a family one of his most lasting projects was working on the Shining Sea Bike Path, in Falmouth. An avid bicyclist and cycling advocate, he served on the Bikeway Committee for decades and played an important role extending the bikeway to North Falmouth.
A Remembrance Service will be held at Chapman Funeral Home in West Falmouth on February 21st starting at 2:00 p.m.
