The Opel family sends their deepest condolences to Doug Grimms family for their loss. We were his neighbors across the field in another log house that he watched being built as a kid. He came over one day and while leaning on a shovel, told us of the great Rattlesnake valley and what it was like back then. His stories made us appreciate how special the area was! We shared a burn pile often and as it got bigger and bigger I thought surely it would pose a fire threat. Instead he had chosen to build a wildlife habitat with a wetland at one end and a huge lodge of brush for fox and other critters to den up or hide in! . Doug had a chair pulled out to watch the coming and going of the many wildlife critters we have in the area. I will miss him very much as he was just part of the place he loved. The "hood" just won´t be the same without him!!

Doug was a great neighbor, regaling us with stories of the past, his homesteading parents, and old Missoula. He greeted everyone, and was the unofficial Mayor of Sycamore Street and beyond.
He will be missed. RIP
