James W. "Jim" Hannah, age 80 of Prairie du Chien passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at New Glarus Assisted Living Home in New Glarus, WI. He was born on January 12, 1945, to James and Minnie (Renwick) Hannah in Detroit, MI. Jim joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Truax Field Air Base near Madison, WI. While there, he met Mary Kaye Steiner. Jim and Mary Kaye were married on May 28, 1966. Together, they moved to Prairie du Chien where they raised their 4 children. Jim worked for Steiner Brothers Construction before becoming the Crawford County Veteran Service Officer, where he remained for many years until retirement. Jim was a proud active member of the American Legion and Prairie du Chien Military Honor Guard. He coached grade school football at St. Gabriel's Catholic School in Prairie du Chien for several years. He and his wife Mary Kaye embodied the Christmas Spirit and were so proud to share it with children in the area. Jimbo was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on the PdC Blackhawks, Grasshoppers, Mike Steiner Construction Softball teams, and was even known to join the dugout now and then. From the stage to fields, rinks, and courts, Papa could be found in the front row of the stands or watching on his IPad – always our biggest cheerleader. He was pretty lucky with 50/50 drawings – but would always donate his winnings back, keeping only enough to cover what he put in. His greats and grands were his pride and joy, but his best friend was a big black lab named Kohl. Together, they shared many orders of French fries and watched countless hours of AGT reruns and YouTube-building shows. He is survived by his children Peg (Joe) Sanders, Tamie (Khalil) Thadi, Heather (Titus Singleton) Hannah, and Bill (Stacey) Hannah; siblings Rick (Karen) Hannah and Patti (Ben) Muto; grandchildren Ben (Vanessa), Xavier (Katie), Rakia, Neysa (Andrew), Drake, Ryan (Claudia), Sarah (Toufiq), Sumayah (Esmail), Tyler (Keya), Hamza, Katie, Reagan, and Lina; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife of 47 years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at St. John's Church of the Holy Family Parish, Fr. Brandon Guenther officiating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the Garrity Funeral Home on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and also at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of departure for church.
