Following his military service, Jim embarked on a long and dedicated career with the Social Security Administration. He worked as the assistant manager in both the Roanoke and Lynchburg offices until his retirement in 1996. His commitment to his work reflected his steadfast dedication to helping others.
A lifelong avid reader, Jim found joy and solace in books throughout his life. His love for reading was a constant source of enrichment and reflection. He was a frequent visitor of the Forest Public Library and enjoyed going to the Forest Farmers’ Market on Saturdays with his family.
Jim and Judy loved to travel and traveled many times to Australia, New Zealand, and several other countries and throughout the USA.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Judy L. Harris; daughters, Candace H. Harris and Emily F. Harrison; son, James F. Harris of Gold Coast, Australia; granddaughters, Katie A. Harrison, Anna X. Harrison, and Lily B. Harris; and grandson, James M. (Jack) Harris. He was predeceased by his father, Frederick K. Harris; mother, Caroline B. Harris; brother, Frederick K. Harris, Jr., and sisters Juanita LeBrun, and Nellie May Harris.
Jim's memory will live on through those who knew him and loved him dearly. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
