James Hazzard Obituary

James Daughtridge Hazzard, III

April 6, 1983 - December 10, 2023

Lexington, South Carolina - James Daughtridge Hazzard, III, 40, of Lexington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10th, 2023 surrounded by his family and beloved dog, Scout. Born in Georgetown, SC on April 6th, 1983, he was the son of James Daughtridge Hazzard, Jr. and Jane Wilkie Risher.

James attended Virginia Tech and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. James worked for over 20 years as a civil engineer and was most recently employed by Dominion Energy. Despite being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2016, James continued to live life to the fullest, displaying the utmost level of courage and selflessness through the love and service he gave to his family, friends and community. Having become an Eagle Scout and Member of the Order of the Arrow, James shared his deep appreciation of nature and adventure with his two young sons and wife Ali by taking them on numerous camping, kayaking, white water rafting, and ski trips. Even through the trials of his illness, James never complained. His sharp wit, infectious laughter and sparkling blue eyes made him an affable friend to any stranger he ever met.

James is survived by his wife, Alicia "Ali" Hazzard; sons, James "Jace" Daughtridge Hazzard IV and Silas Austin Hazzard; mother, Jane Wilkie Risher; father, James Daughtridge (Delores) Hazzard, Jr.; sister, Elizabeth Miles (Brian Paul) Rego; and his 2 nieces and 2 nephews. He was predeceased by his step-brother and step-sister, Niki and Jareb Price.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 20th, 2024 at Mt. Horeb Church, 1205 Old Cherokee Rd. Lexington, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
