James Coley Height passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, April 17, with his loving wife Karen by his side, at Transitions HospiceCare after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.
James was a selfless, humble man of great integrity who enriched the lives of everyone around him. A man of great faith, his faith never wavered as he experienced life's joys, sorrows, and challenges. He had a quiet strength, a generous spirit, and a servant's heart-qualities that touched not only his family, but his church, his community, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
James was born to the late Alec and Eva Height, the second of five children. James attended Wake Forest High School and dedicated more than 40 years of service to Westinghouse/ABB/Elster Electricity.
His heart for service was evident in every chapter of his life. He volunteered for many years with the Wake Forest Fire Department, coached Little League baseball, and Keith's Supermarket men's softball team. That same spirit extended to his church, where he served in many capacities over the years-always ready to lend a hand, offer encouragement, and reflect the love of God through his quiet acts of kindness and service. Steadfast and devoted, James lovingly dedicated his time and energy in caring for family members, both his own and by marriage.
In 1985, James married the love of his life, Karen. Their deep bond and devotion to one another were evident in how they lived-always together, finding joy in simple moments, shared laughter, and a life rooted in faith, friendship, and family. Whether attending church, traveling together, or cheering on the NC State Wolfpack, James and Karen were side by side, building a life filled with love and lasting relationships. These friendships - from lifelong friends made in the stands of Wolfpack football and baseball games, fellow travelers with "Forever Friends," and Woodland Church family - brought James and Karen great joy over the years.
James was not only a devoted husband, but also a cherished brother, a thoughtful and supportive brother-in-law, and a proud, doting uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He found great joy in encouraging his family through the years, whether in sports, school, or life. His loyalty and kindness extended far and wide, leaving a legacy of love and generosity.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, April 22, 2025 at Woodland Baptist Church, 190 Woodland Church Road,
