James Hess Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shimon Funeral Home on Dec. 15, 2025.
James Michael Hess, 64, of Hartford, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
His passing leaves a deep sadness in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
James was born on January 15, 1961, to Michael and Dianne Hess.
He was a man of quiet presence and a kind soul, known for his down-to-earth nature and his ability to make others feel seen.
Though he faced personal struggles throughout his life, James never lost his gentle spirit or his capacity for kindness. Those who knew him best remember his warmth, sincerity, and genuine heart.
James graduated from Hartford Union High School and later served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he learned the trade of masonry while working alongside his grandfather Franklin Roecker.
James found peace in the outdoors and especially enjoyed ice fishing, hiking, and spending time in nature. Pike Lake held a special place in his heart and was where he often felt most at ease.
James is survived by his parents; Micheal and Dianne Hess, his children; Jamie Hess, Kim Hess, and Hannah Doucette; his eight grandchildren; his former spouse, Sheila Rubenzer; and extended family members and friends who will carry his memory forward.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, and the love he had for his family.
A visitation to celebrate James's life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 5:15 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 1001 Center St, Hartford, Wisconsin 53027.
