James Hipsher Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fisher Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services - Logansport on Apr. 14, 2022.
James Augustus Hipsher, 91, Logansport, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2022, in Chase Center.
Born June 17, 1930, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Clarence J. and Lenora E. (Schell) Hipsher.
On September 10, 1955, in his wife's parent's home in Camden, James was married to Ruth Ann (Callaway) Hipsher. She preceded him in death August 9, 2014.
James was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Logansport.
Following his 1948 graduation from Logansport High School, James entered the United States Navy. He served from 1948 -1952 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Class Chief Petty Officer.
When he returned home, James furthered his education at Indiana State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1948 and his Master of Science in Education in 1962. He returned to the hometown he loved so well and was hired to teach at Franklin Elementary School in 1958. He taught there for 8 years. He then moved to Longfellow Elementary where he taught for 3 years before being hired as the science teacher and assistant principal at Fairview, working there the next 12 years. In 1981, he was hired as the principal at Lincoln Middle School - a position he enjoyed for 11 years before his retirement in 1992. Mr. Hipsher was the epitome of a strong, consistent, and dedicated leader. His example will be remembered by all throughout the community -especially by the many lives he touched as an educator for thirty-four years.
He is survived by two daughters, Becky Hipsher (Bruce Hagen) of Flagstaff, AZ and Susan Hipsher (Jason Feltis) of Lafayette; two sons, Charles Hipsher (Glenna) of Logansport and Ben Hipsher (Cheryl), Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Joshua Poe (Anjie), Rachel Taylor(Jeff), Jared Hagen, Lenore Hipsher, Daniel Feltis, Sara Hipsher, Reagan Hipsher and three great-grandchildren, Alyson Poe, Maggie Taylor and McCoy Taylor; one brother, Robert L. (Mary) Hipsher, Abbeville, SC; one sister, Jean Ann (Joe) Flory, Logansport.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard E. Hipsher, and two sisters, Helen M. Lane and Delta M. Swisher.
A funeral service celebrating the life of James "Jim" Hipsher will be held Wednesday April, 20th at 10:30 a.m. in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeff Allen officiating.
Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the Wise Cemetery, Camden.
