James Michael Hockersmith was a devoted husband of 63 years, a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a faithful servant of God. He was the steady rock of our family. He was the perfect example of what a man, husband, and father should be.
He lived his faith every day, quietly witnessing through kindness, humility, and service. He never met a stranger, never turned away someone in need, and always found a way to make life better for others. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and continued a lifetime or service through generosity and love. He could fix anything, knew every road, and never accepted payment except a Smile and a Thank-You.
He loved golf, especially talking with Lamar about it before settling into their recliners on Sunday afternoons. He loved to travel, drive, and most of all, to be surrounded by his family. With his calm spirit, bright blue eyes, and warm heart, he made everyone feel special. He was known for his birthday greetings- "Happy birthday, young man", or "young lady" and his sincere wish for "the best day ever".
He was honest, encouraging, and full of grace. He led by example, never wavering in his faith, and taught us all what it means to love unconditionally.
He leaves behind a family deeply proud to be his, and forever inspired by the life he lived, his shoes are impossible to fill, but his example will guide us always. He lived well, loved deeply, and left the world brighter than he found it.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cristi Jo Hockersmith; son, Craig Michael Hockersmith; grandson, Colby Hockersmith; parents, Perry Sr, and Florence Hockersmith; brother, Darrell, Hockersmith, Perry Hockersmith Jr., Basil Hockersmith, and sister Lucille Simpson. He is survived by his wife Glenda Hockersmith; daughter, Cheri Rolison (Keith); son, Cary Hockersmith; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Hockersmith; sister, Elizabeth Simpson and grandchildren, Tristan Hockersmith, Lauren Baswell, Morgan Hockersmith, C.J.
