James Hughes Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 5, 2025.
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted." -Psalm 34:18

From the family- It saddens us deeply to share that our beloved brother and uncle, James Billy Hughes, Jr., age 66, went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2025. Though we grieve his passing, we rejoice in knowing he is now healed, whole, and resting in the presence of Jesus. We take comfort in knowing he has been reunited with loved ones who went before him. James will be remembered for his tender heart, his beautiful blue eyes, his love of singing the gospel - especially "How Great Thou Art," his joyful dancing, his sweet smile, and the contagious laugh God blessed him with. He was special in every way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Billy Hughes and Betty Joan Adams; and by his sisters and their spouses: Linda Hughes; Sherry (and Gary Harding); and (Jerry Wade).

James is survived by his two sisters, Billie Yvonne Wade and Nancy Hughes; and by his stepfather, Ronnie Adams.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, along with their children: Jesse and Donna Wade (Chasiti & Chance); Kristy and Billy Wilson (Michael and Zoey); Justin Wade (and Taylor); Donna and Sean Jackson (Alyssa, Shonterria, and Shonneise); Dusty Madrie; Ashley and Aaron Blackwell (Autumn and Ava); and Shanda and Travis Harrison (and Gracie).

He is further survived by extended family and dear friends, along with his loving caregivers, Ms. Joy Murray and Ms. Miller, who cared for him with great compassion.

There will be a Celebration of Life- the family will provide the date at a later time. Until then, we hold tight to the precious memories James leaves behind.
