James Hurd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Midwest Cremation & Funeral Services, LLC - Springfield on Feb. 11, 2026.
James "Jim" D. Hurd, 86, left this earth in search of his next project in the early morning hours of February 10, 2026.

Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Cynthia "Cindy" Hurd; his daughter, Tammy Childers (Steve); his son, James "Jamie" D. Hurd, Jr. (Laura); and two grandchildren, Katherine "Katie" Hurd and Andrew Hurd. He also leaves behind his brother, Ben Hurd of Oldfield; his sister, Jeanne Butcher (Don) of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ron Hurd.

A Navy veteran, successful businessman, and dedicated mentor, Jim found his greatest joy in serving others. He took pride in instilling a deep love for nature and faith in his children, often through camping and float trips. As the co-owner of House of Sound and Jerimiah's Trading Post with his brother Ben during the 1970s and 80s, Jim's business acumen and leadership left a lasting impact on those he took under his wing.

In keeping with Jim's practical nature and his final wishes, no services are planned.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services of Springfield, MO.
