James Jackson, a true Southern gentleman with a kind and generous spirit, was born on November
7, 1938, in Whighman, Georgia, to Lonnie Jackson and Sweet Mary Corker. Raised in Climax,
Georgia, he attended Climax Elementary School. From a young age, James worked in the fields
alongside his father, where he learned the values of hard work, dedication, and
perseverance-principles that guided him throughout his remarkable life.
In 1963, James embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Morristown, New Jersey. There, he began
a decade-long career at the Paper Mill in Whippany before transitioning to Champion Dairy Pack.
His unwavering commitment and work ethic earned him respect and admiration during his 20 years
at Dairy Pack, where he retired in the early 2000s.
In 1975, James met and married the love of his life, Louise Walker. Their union, spanning more than
50 years, was a testament to love, partnership, and devotion. Together, they built a life rooted in
family, faith, and joy.
James was a man of many talents and passions. A lover of music, he sang in the quartet The
Southernaires, played the guitar, and cherished listening to his favorite songs, especially This is a
Man's World by James Brown. James found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether cultivating a
bountiful garden filled with delicious tomatoes, cooking his famous "Poppa's Chicken," or spending
cherished moments with his loved ones. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly called
him "Pop-Pop," a name synonymous with love, wisdom, and laughter.
A man of quiet strength and profound kindness, James had a gift for making everyone around him
feel special and loved. His warm smile, generous heart, and gentle nature left an indelible mark on
all who knew him.
On January 16, 2025, the Lord called James home. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his
legacy of love and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
James was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Walker and Ethel Walker; his brothers, Lonnie
Jackson, Jr. and Leroy Swain; and his beloved daughter, Brenda Jaye.
He is survived by his devoted wife of more than 50 years, Louise; his children, Tara Jackson and
Jeffery Walker; his sisters, Berthela Wilson, Trudie Walker, and Allie Mae Walker; his sister-in-law,
Hazel Walker (affectionately known as Black Magic); his grandchildren, Al-Tariq, Taleeha, Daveon,
Jazmine, Brandon, Angelica, and Jashon; a host of great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces,
nephews, and friends who adored him.
James Jackson will be remembered as a man of grace, love, and integrity-a true patriarch whose life
was a testament to the beauty of a kind heart and a generous soul.
