OUR BELOVED JAMES
James Edward Jackson was born on March 30, 1955, in
Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to the late Edward and Mae Julia (Matthews) Jackson.
At an early age, James accepted Christ and confessed his faith. He was a devoted member of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Larry C. Battles.
A proud veteran, James served his country honorably in the United States Navy, enlisting in July 1979 and serving until June 1983.
James dedicated nearly thirty-three years to Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services before retiring in 2019. He began his career as a Hoseman, riding on the back of the fire truck to respond to fires and emergencies. Through hard work, extensive training, education, and unwavering commitment, he rose through the ranks -- first as an Engineer, then as a Lieutenant, and ultimately, for more than a decade, as a respected Captain in the Fire Department. As a Captain, he made it his mission to encourage and mentor other members to advance their careers within the department.
James cherished spending time with his beloved wife, Joyce, traveling, and being surrounded by family and friends. He also enjoyed singing with the Mt. Nebo Male Chorus and capturing life's special moments through photography. He was a gentle, kind-hearted man who always sought to bring a smile to others. James helped anyone who needed him, never expecting anything in return.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mae Julia (Matthews) Jackson, and his sister, Carolyn Joyce Jackson Moore.
James leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of thirty-five years, Joyce Jackson. He is also survived by two brothers, William (JoEvelyn) Jackson and Ronald Jackson, both of
Pine Bluff, Arkansas; two Godsons, Dwight Moten Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Nicholas Mega of Lawton, Oklahoma; one Goddaughter, Ashley Nicole Bacon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and friends -- each of whom held a special place in his heart.
James will be fondly remembered for his unforgettable expressions, such as "HONEY HUSH," "I GOT IT," and "YOU MAKE ME SICK." Delivered with humor and affection, these endearing sayings could always fill a room with laughter,
