James Jacoby Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mercer-Adams Funeral Service on Jan. 1, 2026.
James William Jacoby went to be with Jesus peacefully December 27, 2025, in Oklahoma City. He was born October 18, 1932, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Journalism with honors. He was an accomplished clarinetist in High School, college and the U. S. Army band. Rising to the rank of Army Staff Sergeant he was also the writer and editor of the base newspaper. His motto was "Go, Go, Go," and whatever he did he did with perfection.
He met Lucy, the love of his life, on a trolley in Allentown one rainy day. They shared an umbrella and the rest was history. They were married August 9, 1953, in Allentown while she was a nurse at Penn State and he completed his education. They had a son James R, while at Penn State and a daughter, Patricia, when they lived in Pittsburgh.
He had a long career in journalism, communication, and was an instructor of business courses at universities and colleges. He eventually started his own business as a trainer, writing books and manuals, including his published book "How to Prepare Managerial Communications."
His passion was both travel and photography. Rarely was he seen without his camera. Together, he and Lucy toured the world several times and documented their trips into 17 travelogs. He shared these with communities wherever he lived. He also loved sailing and had his own boat. His other joys were tennis, biking, games, live musical theater, as well as a being a Scout Master. Entertaining and Bridge went together for them - they were wonderful hosts. He loved to camp with his family. He brought them camping in all the lower 48 states. Amusement parks were a staple every summer - we had to run to keep up with him.
Church was very important to him. The Gideons gave him a Bible while he was at Concordia and he faithfully read every day until the last days of his life.
Jim and Lucy celebrated 70 wonderful years of marriage together with Jim lovingly caring for her before her passing in May of 2024.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lucy and brother Bill.
He is survived by children Jim (Konnie) and Patricia (David), 3 grandchildren, Joli, Erik, and Karla and 6 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Salvation Army.
So now, when we hear, "You've got mail," we know it's from our Papa in heaven.
