James Jenkins Obituary

James Larry Jenkins

February 27, 1953 - March 5, 2026

James Larry Jenkins, age 73, of Warrenton, VA, passed unexpectedly on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Fauquier hospital. He was born on February 27, 1953 in Warrenton, VA, son of the late James and Mildred Jenkins.

Larry was a man whose work left more than color on walls - it left warmth in the lives of the people who knew him. Through his paintbrush, he touched the hearts of families and businesses across his community, transforming houses into homes and buildings into places filled with pride. As the owner of Jenkins Painting, Larry built not only a successful business but also a reputation for dedication, craftsmanship, and integrity.

Larry's journey as a painter began in 1971, when he first started working alongside his father. What began as a young man learning a trade quickly became a lifelong passion. Over the years, Jenkins Painting grew into a true family legacy. Larry proudly worked alongside all three of his brothers, and later welcomed his son and daughter into the business, sharing with them the pride he felt in his work and teaching them the value of dedication and perseverance.

Before Larry became known for his painting, he was already making a name for himself in athletics. At Culpeper High School, he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball, showing the same determination and team spirit that would later define the rest of his life. His love of sports never faded. As an adult, he devoted time to coaching little league football, where he inspired young athletes and led his teams to championship games. For Larry, coaching was about more than winning - it was about guiding kids, building confidence, and teaching teamwork.

In 1978, Larry met Mary, the woman who would become the love of his life. Their relationship blossomed over the years, and in 1987 they were married. Together they shared 39 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and companionship. Together they had a daughter and son. Larry enjoyed the simple pleasures of life with his family - going out to dinner, spending time shopping together, and enjoying each other's company.

In 1980 Larry discovered another passion when he purchased his first racehorse. From that moment on, the thrill of the track became part of his life. He loved watching his horses run and celebrated their victories with excitement and pride. Charles Town Races and Slots soon became his second home, a place where he could enjoy the sport he loved and the excitement of race day.

Yet, despite his many passions and accomplishments, family was always at the center of Larry's world. Some of his happiest moments were spent during the family's yearly beach trips, where laughter, relaxation, and togetherness created memories that would last forever. He also loved cheering on WVU games on television, sharing the excitement of each play with those around him.

Simple moments meant the most to Larry - coming home at the end of the day to be greeted by the dogs, spending time with the people he loved, and especially seeing his grandson, who was proudly named after him. Those moments reflected the heart of the man he was: devoted, proud, and deeply connected to his family.

Larry's life was one of hard work, passion, and love. Through Jenkins Painting, through sports, through the racetrack, and most importantly through his family, he left a legacy that will continue to live on. The homes he painted may stand as reminders of his craftsmanship, but the lives he touched will always be the true measure of the man he was.

Larry is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Leach Jenkins; two children, Jamie Jenkins (David) and James Jenkins (Lauren), both of Warrenton, VA; three brothers, Moe Jenkins (Susie) of Fredericksburg, VA, Mike Jenkins (Liz) and David Jenkins (Brenda), both of Culpeper, VA; sister-in-law, Linda Leach of Warrenton; grandson, James William Jenkins, also of Warrenton; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family will receive visitors at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave., Warrenton VA, on Monday, March 16, 2026 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Moser Chapel on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Bright View Cemetery.
